MFL @ Countess Anne School – French

Overview

 

In EYP and Phase 1, MFL is taught informally at appropriate times throughout the week. In addition to this ongoing informal teaching, Phase 2 are also taught in weekly structured lessons. Children’s learning will accumulate in yearly stages so that by the end of phase 2 objectives will be achieved in 3 years.

Expectations

By the end of EYP

Children will have an understanding that not everyone speaks the same language. In French they will have:

  • Spoken greetings to each other
  • Sung some simple songs

By the end of Phase 1

(in addition to the expectations in EYP)

In French, children will have:

  • Responded to the register
  • Used the numbers one to ten
  • Spoken the names of some colours

By the end of Phase 2

(in addition to the expectations in Phase 1)

In French, children will have:

  • Listened for information and instructions
  • Spoken to convey information
  • Spoken and interacted with others
  • Read for information and instructions
  • Written to exchange information
